Synopsis
A musical play in two distinctively
different acts
Just a typical Sunday in the park,
people strolling or boating, young folks flirting. Amidst this
leisurely activity is George Seurat, at work on a large scale
painting of the Island of La Grande Jatte. His new technique,
pointillism, is
criticized, not in a good way, and George turns in on himself,
intent on finishing the painting. He realizes as he does that he is
isolating himself from those around him
As day turns to eve there are
dust-ups among the people in the park. The hubbub spreads until
George acts and places all the park visitors into his composition
Stuck in what will soon be
acknowledged as a masterpiece
Act the second usually
discombobulates audiences. One hundred years later George's great
grandson, a multimedia artist now working in the States, gets
inspiration from his grandmother Marie to continue his work.
Traveling to La Grande Jatte to shows his new work, Cromolume #7 (a
machine that does something or other with light), notes made by Dot
help him come to terms with his art -- and himself
