Synopsis
Dr Katherine Brandt is on a mission
to understand why Beethoven was obsessed with completing 33
variations of a simple waltz penned by Anton Diabelli. She must
resolve her obsession and repair the relationship with her daughter
before she succumbs to disease
The scenes are set in modern Bonn,
the site of Beethoven's birth house and subsequent museum and
archives, where Brandt is conducting her research, and 1820s Vienna,
where the master later lived and composed the Variations. The
characters sometimes cross the generations-long line to reinforce
the similarities and circumstances of the eras
