Synopsis
Can't spend too much time on this
dog, so we'll just take one of the production's blurbs:
"Thomas Weaver is a best-selling,
award-winning author. Alvin Kelby was his best friend for 30 years.
But time can test the bonds of love and friendship — and when it
does, Thomas calls on the only resource he has — his stories of
Alvin — to learn where things went wrong. A richly melodic musical,
The Story of My Life is a soaring tribute to the power of friendship
and the people who change our lives forever"
The Road to Broadway
Story first had readings at
the Manhattan
Theatre Club's play development program in 2005. The world
premiere at Toronto's
CanStage in
November 2006 was directed by original MTC attachment Michael Bush
and starred Brent Carver and Jeffrey Kuhn
The last pre-Broadway tryout was at
Goodspeed Musicals Norma Terris Theater in Fall 2008
Oops!
Very poor reviews killed the show.
Many are in the vein of the New York Times
Ben Brantley:
"I don’t think it’s spoiling anything
to tell you that Mr. Gets’s character is dead when the show begins.
So, for all practical purposes, is 'The Story of My Life.'"
In the Movies
Nope, not yet. But just think It's
a Wonderful Life meets Beaches |
