Synopsis

Okay, don't fib, we know you know the words, or at least how to hum along:

They're creepy and they're kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They're all together ooky,
The Addams Family

And they're baaaaack. The wonderfully wacky members of the Addams clan finally make it to the Great White Way. Still as odd and idiocentric as ever, there have been some changes in their lives; the kids are growing up and the adults are starting to see the world in slightly different ways (as if they didn't always)

The Road to Broadway

Not a very long one. After usual readings and workshops, just a pre-Broadway run at Chicago's Ford Center from November 13, 2009 thru January 10, 2010

It turns out to be a bit of a bumpy road over Christmas 2009. There were rumors of problems with the show coming out of Chicago immediately after the opening at the Ford Center. Then, just prior to the holiday the New York Post's Michael Riedel reported that the "leading lady is deeply unhappy" and that the leading man had been heard to say that "nobody knows what they're doing." Together with the creatives going off to warmer climes for vacations and at least three outside directors called in to give notes, well, it just sounded like trouble. The producers apparently agreed because just five days later, December 28th, they announced that Jerry Zaks, due to helm the Dame Edna-Michael Feinstein revue All About Me, was called in as a show doctor

Notes

It might not surprise too many people that one of Charles Addams's early jobs was to retouch photos of corpses for True Detective magazine. We guess this is as good a base as any for the mordantly humorous Addams Family one-panel cartoons published in New Yorker magazine beginning in 1938. What is a bit surprising, is that, given its place in our sitcom consciousness, the original Addams Family television series only aired for two seasons, 1964-65 and 1965-66, albeit for a total of 64 episodes. The show did spawn many other works, notably 1991's Addams Family and Addams Family Values in 1993, both feature films starring Raul Julia and Angelica Houston as Gomez and Morticia. Most recently, The New Addams Family aired on the Fox Family Channel during the 1998-99 television season. Again a bit surprising, 65 episodes of the new show aired, 1 more than the original series
