Synopsis
Something with comedy and music
The Road to Broadway
How do we explain this? Back in September 2009
we posted that Michael Feinstein was readying a Broadway show titled
All About Me with an eye to being on the boards February
2010. Producers were listed as Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel,
and the show was to have a book by Peter Ackerman. In November, a
preview date of March 13, 2010 with a March 30th opening at a "Shubert
house to be named" was announced
During the same period, October 2009, it was
announced that Barry Humphries would return to Broadway in Dame
Edna: It's All About Me. As we wrote at that time:
"Not actually sure when anything about the Dame
wasn't all about her; that's just the type of gal she is.
After two successful sojourns to this side of the Pond over the
recent years, it appears that Dame Edna again thinks the Colonials need a
bit of her unique type of entertainment. She always rocks, always
rolls, always gives her audiences a frolicking good time"
Dates were announced in November for previews to
start March 6, 2010 for a March 23rd opening
And that brings us to the situation of the past
week or so. Starting on November 5th, New York Times reporter Dave
Itzkoff mentioned the
possible confusion in show titles. That carried over for two
more
stories, and then the
nickel dropped
So now, it's Feinstein and the Dame, March 6th
for March 23rd. Nix that, now it's February 19th for a March 18th
opening
...and now for a change in directors
It might not be recommended to change horses in mid-stream, but
directors are apparently painted a different color. All About Me
was director-less after a Dec 28th announcement that Jerry Zaks, due
to helm this show, was moving over to take a "creative consultant"
position at the forthcoming The
Addams Family. Mr Nicholaw was announced as his replacement
the next day
With casting mid-January and rehearsals to immediately follow, the
show is on its way, though previews are delayed until Feb 22nd
instead of Feb 19th
