Synopsis

Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. The '30s. A growing boy with thoughts of baseball, girls, the usual troubles of a family coming out of the Depression, looks forward to the possibilities of a career as a writer

Broadway Show History

The original production of Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs debuted at the Alvin Theater on March 27, 1983. (In June of that year the theater was renamed for -- Who else? -- Mr Simon.) The original Brighton Beach featured Matthew Broderick as Eugene and garnered 1983 Tony Awards® for Mr Broderick and director Gene Saks

Wow! You never know what you'll find when you rummage around in the attic. Look what we found on our Broadway Shows: Lost in Development page:

"In an unusual twist, revivals of the Neil Simon biographical comedies were to run in rotation. Linda Lavin was to return as Kate Jerome but instead opened in Tale of the Allergist Wife. Zoe Wanamaker was mentioned as a possible replacement. Show was due Spring 2001

Then, Broadway Bound half of the rotation was out of the picture. Project later scrapped"

We wrote that back in October 2000. That's one thing we've always know about Broadway folks; while it might look as if a project is dead, they never, ever, really let it go

That's why we keep our attic
