Synopsis
Fences is the sixth play in Mr
Wilson's 10-play "Pittsburgh Cycle" that focuses on Black life in
Pittsburgh's Hill District during the whole of the Twentieth Century
Troy Maxson is a garbage man (or sanitation worker, if you prefer).
A former Negro League baseball player who never made it to the Major
Leagues, he is disillusioned by the lack of opportunities for Blacks
at work and his son Cory's interest in football. His life is further
complicated by a brother who believes he is the angel Gabriel and a
son by his first wife who always seems to want money. Adding to the
tension is the unearthing of his affair with another woman who died
giving birth to their daughter Broadway
