Brining a Lombardi-themed show to
Broadway was supposedly inspired by sports-management exec Ponturo's replica Lombardi trophy.
Sounds like the inspiration was looking for a show, as Simonson's Lombardi / The Only Thing, also based on
the Maraniss
bio, had a Fall 2007 run at Wisconsin's Madison Rep. Casting for
the Broadway
production was Feb 2010; a deal was cut with the NFL that April and
the show is on Broadway in the Fall
