Chicago, Chicago, that wonderful
town, where everybody has a story and most of them are bad. Really
bad. What else can you expect when you hang out with dames named
Velma Kelly, Roxie Hart and Mama Morton, murderers all. When
vaudevillians and chorus girls pick up a gun it's always with
something else in mind -- celebrity and fame. Velma and Roxie take
off the gloves as they vie for the attention of the press, but the
limelight always seems to elude them. In the end they wind up
partners on the stage. Velma did, after all, need a new partner; the
person she shot was the other half of her 'sister act'
Notes The original,
dramatic production of Chicago opened December 20, 1926, at
the Music Box
Theater. Francine Larrimore and Charles Bickford
starred. The Kander-Ebb-Fosse musical production opened June 3,
1975, at the then named 46th
Street Theater. Gwen Verdon, Jerry Orbach and Chita Rivera
starred
