Though these cuddly teddy bears start out with as many clothes as
the folks who participate in Broadway
Bares, the production is a bit tamer. The bears are coifed,
nipped, tucked, costumed and sent out to be auctioned to benefit the
programs delivered by Broadway Cares/EFA
The fun starts with a private reception (includes cocktail, hors
d’oeuvres, dessert) and viewing for VIP ticket holders at 6:00P. The
doors open to the rest of us shlobs at 7:00P (cocktail, dessert),
with the auction starting around 8:00P, with host Bryan Batt and
auctioneer Lorna Kelly
The 2005 event raised more than a hundred thousand bucks, with bears
going for bids from $600 to the top price, $6,000 for a Kristin
Chenoweth signed "Glinda" bear. Special appearances were made by
Bryan Batt, Delta Burke, Mary Bond Davis, Mickey Dolenz, Dame Edna,
Richard Kine, Maureen McGovern, Christine Pedi, Alan Ruck and John
Selya
Bears for the 2006 gala are to be a shade of tangerine and are
already scheduled to include designs based on
42nd Street,
700 Sundays,
Avenue
Q, Dirty
Rotten Scoundrels, Hairspray,
La Cage aux Folles and
