What do you do when you happen to have an available theater and want to raise a few bucks? Well, you do what Andy Hardy and his friends did and say, "Hey! Let's put on a show." That's what Tyne Daly and the rest of the folks in the cast of the 1989 revival of Gypsy did that November, they put on a show that was to become the annual "topper offer" of the Fall BC/EFA fund-raising season

"Gypsies" are those sometimes nameless folks in the chorus of a musical, you know, the ones doing all of the real work, as celebrated in Chita Rivera's A Dancer's Life. Some gypsies get to go on to stardom and fame, such as Ms Rivera, Shirley McLane and Gwen Verdon. For the most part, unless one happens to get a piece of business to work in a show, they are unheralded, credited simply as "chorus" or "ensemble"

The gypsies also do much of the work in BC/EFA's fund-raising efforts on Broadway and touring shows throughout the country. The Gypsy of the Year competition is the highlight of the Fall season and the 2005 edition is expected to be a gypsy- and star-studded event

Scheduled to be on hand are Brad Garrett (The Odd Couple), Rosie O’Donnell and Harvey Fierstein (Fiddler on the Roof), Patti LuPone (Sweeney Todd),  Tim Curry (Spamalot), and Huey Lewis (Chicago). Performers will also be on hand from the cast of The Lion King, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, In My Life, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee among quite a few others
