Synopsis We love the new
songs written for the musical production of Hairspray and
can't stop tapping our toes to Good Morning Baltimore, Momma, I'm
a Big Girl Now and Welcome to the 60s, all great 50s and
60s finger-snapping sounds. Based on the 1988 John Waters film, Hairspray
follows the dream of pleasantly plump Tracy Turnblad and her bid to
become a dancer on the Corny Collins Dance Show, followed by
her fight for integration in 1960s Baltimore. The question is, as Hairspray's
producers put it "can a trendsetter in dance and fashion
vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of
heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a television show
without denting her 'do?"
TheaterScene Review
Cute and cartoon-y, a campy, cardboard
comedy with heart, this bouncy, bubble-gum bauble is already a
favorite among those who's entertainment requirements are
non-cerebral...

Waters film featured a cast that included Sonny Bono, Divine, Debbie
