When we first heard about Paper
Dolls back in December 2001, Andrea Martin was to lead. Then it
was Marlo
Thomas, who played in regional bookings with F Murray Abraham. And then
-- What a switch! -- Fran Drescher was attached
It was on the boards of Connecticut's Long
Wharf Theatre in Spring 2003 with Dixie Carter, Jerry Grayson,
Joanne Genelle and Adrian Rieder (plus Barney as Josephine) as a
warm-up for Spring 2003 on Broadway
That didn't work out. Now it was Kurtz and Hirsh and November
previews at Circle in the Square. An investor dropped out a month
before November previews caused another postponement and Ms Kurtz
was to start rehearsals for Off-Broadway production of
Frozen in January 2004
We truly though there would be more to come, not years of deafening
